TRAVEL FITNESS

Though I enjoy seeing and hearing about people who travel to different places, make new experiences. I personally never was a great fan of travelling to different places myself.
Since childhood I remember my parents always look forward to the one opportunity may be yearly to travel domestic or international.

I was hugely excited during the preparations. Although we were told to travel light , I always packed outfits , separate for morning , evening, nights as one should never be clicked twice in the same outfit.

As years passed my struggle for traveling increased to the limit that I resisted myself to travel even to see my family and friends.
My prime concerned became my health and fitness. It’s okay ! to disconnect from your fitness goals once in a while but falling out of taking care of my body completely never sinked with me. I always tried to find some way or the other to keep myself closer to the health routine as the idea of detoxification was a big no for me.

I started with just 3 simple steps in order to stay healthy even while traveling.
1) Hydration – One of the most underrated and most important way to stay healthy and fit is to have enough water, throughout the day and always 30 minutes prior to any meal if you are planning to go out for food. This soothes the hunger pangs and keeps you away from those bread sticks & buns placed on the table.

2) Stretch – Even though you don’t want to hit the gym of your hotel everyday when you are at holidays but a little stretching never hurts. It calms your muscles, releases any tightness in your muscles , regulates blood flow, keeps you more active throughout the day.

All you need to keep your body healthy and ready for riding, hiking and adventuring is a little bit of space, forethought and this quick stretching routine that you can do in your hotel room, in the airport or even on the plane.

Having your own clean and comfortable space to sit or lay down will encourage you to do these few exercises on the go.

3) Recharge – Yes it is true traveling to one place may be a lifetime opportunity and one should make use of it to the most. But it is also a gentle break from our daily busy, running around life. So as much as it is needed to go around and venture out every new places it is equally important to just switch off yourself from the hustle and bustle. It can be anything starting from a day just doing spa, late mornings, breakfast on bed , swimming or may just not being on social media at all.
I kept these three things in mind while and when I travel and it is getting each time easier for and people like me who gets fear pangs thinking about moving from one place to another.

First Job Interview

As you’re poised to enter the work world, you might be so excited about the possibilities that lie in their waiting for you.
The feeling of actually getting placed in your field of expertise starts way before during your preparation.

That phase when once we called those best friends, batchmates, team , close buddies, roomies and numerous other adjectives just to show our love and compassion towards them chokes down in a room full of candidates and competitors.

We are weak from inside , trying to keep up our face full confidence when one by one our batchmates enter the room fully decked up.
Looking at them I almost wondered when did they learn to groom so impeccably. Untill yesterday we were borrowing eye shadows and primers , guiding one another to look put together.

We go through our notes but always eye on what the person sitting next to me is looking at. We start judging , almost declaring the result in our head as soon as a new candidate enters the room.

I was still in college when I got my first college placement interview. It was a huge 5 star property, also not in the city I was living. As much as the opportunity was exciting, leaving my home was always a non pleasurable experience for me. Our 1st round was GD ( group discussion) , and as little I find my memory somehow I manage to remember the topic always. The topic was ” male manager vs female manager”. Just the kind of topic I was waiting for to nail in the room full of male densed candidates. I would not say that I am feminist but a little dash of feminism cause no harm.

That brings me in my second round , which was Skype interview. Skype interviews never caused me any panic attacks as I was fairly distant from the interviewer. However it was the 1st time & all this we learnt how to face the person sitting infront of you accross the room. But here the person was inside a computer. The only challenge I faced was to identify which point to look at.

The interview was mostly based on personal questions, so it went well. We had 4 candidates who were appearing for the interview. Out of four, two got selected for the job. Along with me , one of my batchmate.

If you’re straight out of school, starting your first “real” job can be scary.
But with gentle push, proper guidance and caring people around you, things gets better every day.

Ditch the Filter

No matter what your skin type is, a daily skin care routine can help you maintain overall skin health and improve specific concerns.
Clean skin is happy skin! So, reach for a facial cleanser when you wake up and before you go to sleep.

I like to keep my skin care routine that is easily accessible even when I am traveling.
So always begin with choosing a cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin tight after washing.
Always spend some time choosing the products that fit your skin type and sensitivity. I I usually get lost in the skin care section in any store literally reading the ingredients that are their on labels.

Start with a basic and simple routine to see how your skin reacts. Skin care is not an occasional practice. It is moreover an everyday part of your lifestyle. So, keeping it basic will help you to rather stick to it.
Once you’re comfortable, you can then add extra products such as exfoliants, spot treatments to boost your skin’s health. As these will be more weekly not daily. I mostly restrict myself on two steps skin care routine.

Step one is cleansing the skin using a face wash which again gets replaced seasonally. Step two is face mask, it can be either home made or store bought.
Personally I would say I have sensitive skin, so I prefer keeping products that’s cater to my skin type.
If I am trying any new products on my skin I never skip to patch test, especially if like me you suspect that you have sensitive skin. This can help you identify potential allergic reactions.

To patch test a new product:
✔️Apply a small amount of product on your skin in a discreet area, such as the inside of your wrist or your inner arm.
✔️Wait 48 hours to see if there’s a reaction.

Lately I am inclined towards these sheet face masks. Thet are quite handy and easy to apply even on go. I began using them initially only on flights just to keep away from the cold air conditioner dryness. But as days passed I started reaching for them even at home as make it quick and effective at the same time.
My all time favourite is cucumber sheet mask and papaya sheet mask. Both are awesomely hydrating and gives my skin a super plum look.
Their purpose is to nourish, not exfoliate or cleanse your skin.
Avoid washing your face after using a sheet mask. If there is serum left on your skin after using the mask, gently pat the serum into your skin until it is fully absorbed.

If you are some one like me, where your work demands to wear make up or you simply love to wear make up as it always makes you look more put together. Then never go to bed without taking it off.
Your skin is something that will stay with you for the longest time, take good care of it as it reflects your inner soul as well.

Shhh I am busy doing Sunday

Sshh I am busy doing Sunday

Sunday is the day of the week between Saturday and Monday.
Sunday is often the most challenging day of the week.

As much as Sunday is amusing it is also a prep for the week ahead. It fuels you that will keep you going for the rest of the six days.
On my usual days I prefer to be rise up early in the morning as I love my morning Yoga sessions.

On Sundays I keep it for late afternoon. I stay on my bed as I prefer do be easy on myself as sink into my comfort space.
Sundays are beautifully start with a piping hot cup of coffee on bed with a book that was meaning to be read all this while. As sun shines through my window creating a hue of golden in my room I get even more cozier.

It’s time for some hearty breakfast. On days when I am out and about I mostly take yogurt, oats , cut fruits as they are easy to throw in a dish and just gives me a boost of energy. This day I like to indulge on something warm just to make a difference from the other days. My mum prepares ” Poha” , at home that is basically flattened rice soaked in water, using peanuts, seasonal vegetables all put together sauteed and served hot. Even though I am staying apart for work, I happened to create it myself especially on this day. It was absolutely nothing how my mother would make it , but it clearly makes me feel closer to home.

Soul Food

Now for me there are two ways I can spend my Sunday on. Few weeks I just sit back relax and watch, actually binge watch my favourite season on Amazon Prime.
However I enjoy more running few errands here and there just so that the coming week gets little easy at home. Throughout the week I keep updating my grocery list, as it gets exhausted, so this day I head on to my favourite store where I simply pile up my enlisted items.
Grocery shopping on Sunday and planning your meals for the week will not only help you eat healthier, but it’ll also free you up from having to run back to the store every other day.
Unwinding and getting off anything that might occupied you last week is what my Sundays are for.

So one of the most important ritual I do is ” Pamper session” . It can be a store bought face mask, scrub , bleach anything. Wiping off tiredness & spending some time rejuvenating is the ideal way.
Journaling is the beautiful way to track your progress so take some time to plan out what you need to do tomorrow – when you’re going to work out, what you’re going to eat, what you have to get done at work, etc. – so that you can keep the Monday Blues to a minimum.

As much as it’s great to make checklists, take care of chores, and get organized for the week ahead, but don’t forget to make some YOU time.

Try practicing mindfulness, which has been shown to help reduce anxiety, increase concentration and will-power, improve memory, and boost your immune system!

Or, you know, just take a bubble bath.

How to make yourself a Priority

How often do you find yourself saying “I don’t have time…” in regards to the things that are just for you?

How many times did you do something just for you? When you make yourself a priority, you invest in your biggest resource – YOU!
If you treat yourself like your needs don’t matter or can wait for later, others will follow your lead.
If you don’t look after your own needs you will have nothing left to give to all the people, projects, and causes that need you. Put on your own oxygen mask before helping others!
If it helps you make the shift, try treating yourself as you would treat the people in your life that you care about.

Decide that you deserve some time for you each day.

Say no to someone or something as the fact that every time you say ‘yes’ to something, you are saying ‘no’ to yourself.

Scheduling you first supports you to establish the habits that ensure you are not the one bumped off the bottom of your priority list.
Regardless of who you are or what’s going on in your life — from a high-powered job to stressful responsibilities at home — if you put everything else first, you are sub-optimizing yourself and everything you do.

A lot of us think that self-care has to look a certain way all the time. But depending on what’s going on in your life, self-care can take many different forms. Sometimes, yes, it might be going to the Yoga. For me, the yoga is my sanctuary. It’s the place when I step on the mat I disconnect. But other times the most restorative thing you can do might be to sit quietly on the couch — no devices, no distractions, no doing, period.

The biggest excuse for lack of self priority I hear is, “I don’t have enough time.”

Say you planned to go to do yoga, or take a few minutes to meditate or go for a walk — but for whatever reason, self prioritise didn’t happen. Instead of beating yourself up about it, or convincing yourself it’s never going to work, having self-compassion can motivate you to forgive yourself and simply try again tomorrow — no judgements or guilt trip required.

Self- priority gives me the capacity to be more empathetic and increases my willingness to truly understand what’s going on in the lives of people I care about.
I can’t pour my emotions or feelings to someone , for someone if I am empty. You can always fill the empty cup with the resources you have.

When I do things that make me feel my best, it comes through not only in the work I produce, but also in the way I interact with and lead others.

There’s that saying, “put other people first.” While I believe in putting others’ first, I also believe that there are boundaries. It’s good to put yourself first. In fact, it should be a priority. By putting yourself first, you’re actually putting other people first as well. You can’t take care of others without taking care of yourself.
We’re our own worst critic. We should have more compassion towards ourselves.

We’re so overwhelmed and bombarded with everything else that we have going on in our life that we don’t take time to nurture ourselves.
Learn to be kinder and gentler to yourself. What advice would you give to your friends? Give yourself that same advice.

Reward yourself. It can be something simple. Meditate. Take up yoga. Have a bubble bath. Do something relaxing. I’m not encouraging that you go out spending money, but if you do, get yourself an hour massage, a new hairstyle or outfit. These aren’t luxuries but considered a necessity. They help boost confidence and positive body image.

I am unapologetically myself

Health is not seasonal

You don’t have to be extreme, just consistent. How often do you meet someone extremely conscious about themselves as they need to get into a beautiful dress for the fulfilment of certain occasions. They goes days having merely little to nothing , may be survive on liquids or chewing gums. But is it all that is necessary to get a slim body. As much as the dimensions are concerned, they hardly matter if you have an internal strength, willpower to control as all you eat might not nourish your body.

Love yourself enough to live a healthy lifestyle. I often get to see people trying to get into a fitness regime before a festival, be it during “Durga Puja” . The well celebrated occasion for Bengalis in the month of October.

There are times when I am being asked about how to lose belly fat only.
Girls get high on gym membership or joining some HIIT session before wedding occasions.
They have this understanding of losing weight as quickly as possible by doing crash diet or training 3 hours a day.
On the contrary by the time they finish their fitness session, even though it gave some certain desired changes.

The tend to fall out if it as instead of taking up a healthy approach they took that as a punishment.
Health is just not to take care during festivals, or weddings or parties. It is something that stays with you, it stayed with you all this while. It will stay with you forever. So rather focusing on short term quick fixes. Our approach should be holistic that lasts longer.
You should enjoy loving your body even when nobody is watching.
I do not believe in body image, any size , or any trend to look for when it comes to body health.
I go by the fitness and healthy lifestyle that I can stand by even when I am busy, even when I am rushed to work, even when I am surrounded with best of food items that may or may not do any good to me.
Occasionally indulgence is never a harm, treat yourself with friends and family. The easiest way is to be satisfied and content when you are eating, and enjoy when you are working out.

Don’t just focus on weight loss, focus on Health.

The Gleam

I was a big believer in destiny and fate. I had this understanding of everything is happening because it is meant to happen that way. Be it something happens that you like or don’t.
Until few happenings which was not acceptable by me as part of my destiny. Initially it looked like this is what meant to happen. But as days passed away I realised something that doesn’t make you content , happy can never be one’s destiny.
From that moment , I gradually transferred myself towards belief than just the destiny that is been already created. Rather making the path that brings happiness and joyous feeling as you travel through it.
That belief came from a petite form called gleam of hope.
That gleam shined so bright that it almost blinded every other fear, nervousness that initially I was going through putting the 1st step forward towards the better future. That gleam was always there for me , guiding me through the darkness. The gleam can or cannot be personified. It can be found in your friend, family, neighbour. It can just a materialistic comfort, it can be a hobby of your choice that brings out the best in you.
Hope is the belief that circumstances will get better. It’s not a wish for things to get better — it’s the actual belief, the knowledge that things will get better, no matter how big or small.
When you feel that spark generating within you, allow that to venture out, guide you through the darkness, trust it.
That gleam may or may not be easy to follow, it will not be always socially acceptable, it might hurt a lot of people around you, may be your loved ones. It may bring you down from where you traveled all this while. It may make you the least desirable person. So choose wisely, but you choose make sure not to step back.
That is the hope and the only path for you to create a better tomorrow. As you create each day eventually you will be guided to create your own destiny.

MORNING CUP OF COFFEE

I always look forward to the next day as I believe that’s what keeps me going. As a major part of my next day begins with a piping hot cup of coffee.

I started with having Latte, however it’s been couple of years I started enjoying the rawness of the coffee beans as Americano. The aroma enlightens all of my senses in the early hours of silent morning. That mild sniff travels through the nose and start a way makes it’s way to the heart arousing all the beautiful emotions I can imagine.

My mom & I are the die hard fan of this warm touch and aromatic sensation. We spend hours talking, conversing anything that resides under the sun. That little cup takes me through deep emotional lanes. That’s special bonding holds in and around that warm hug.
